A prolific legal author who has been cited by The New York Times and Bloomberg, Edward Adams serves as Howard E. Buhse Professor of Law and Finance at the University of Minnesota Law School. He has a global outlook formed through professorships with institutions worldwide, from Tilburg University in the Netherlands to the University of Navarre in Spain. As an instructor at Humboldt University in Berlin, Edward Adams capably provided international students with instruction in German on complex legal constructs.
Professor Adams has honed his multidisciplinary scholarship approach at the University of Minnesota that has earned him the Vance K. Opperman Research Scholar Award. In his forthcoming book Naked Power (Cambridge Publishing), he examines the often opaque power structures underlying corporate governance. His published articles often tackle topical issues, as with “Just Don’t Do It: Why Cannabis Regulations are the Reason Cannabis Businesses are Failing,” 24 Nevada Law Journal 349 (2024).
Of Choctaw heritage and a first-generation college graduate, Professor Adams emphasizes the importance of diversity and bridging educational gaps in marginalized communities. He launched both the Introduction to Law Program, which reaches high school students, and the People's Law Program, which delivers pro bono services to community members in need.
